WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF ODIA

Department of Odia was established along with establishment of the college in the year 1981 . Initially it was in Intermediate level , affiliated to Utkal University . Degree classes were opened in the year 1988 with pass subject . Honours in Degree classes were opened in the year 1998 with 16 seats and further increased to 32 seats in 2015-16 . At present the subject is available to the students as Honours , Pass Elective and M.I.L Compulsory subject .

 

Relevance of the Subject :

With the growing need of communicating in the society the modern man has to take resort to various mediums. Language happens to be one of the most powerful among them. The vernacular with its regional importance happens to be a sub –medium which can not be neglected Odia which happens to be our mother tongue has taken a quantum leap over the years without much of patronage. It has rather grown up like the lisping of a small child with the first word of “Ma-a” .Thus the need of the hour is to give as much importance as week as to our mother tongue. It is only the mother tongue. It is only the mother tongue, which can express a man’s basic emotion in its natural form.
