Department Of Psychology

Department of Psychology was established along with establishment of the college in the year 1981 . Initially it was in Intermediate level , affiliated to Utkal University . Degree classes were opened in the year 1988 with pass subject ..Honours is introduced in the year 2017.

Relevance of subject:

Psychology is a growing social science. Like all other sciences researches have been done in the various areas of Psychology in western countries. Psychology studies the behaviour of an organisam scientifically. It is practically applicable in all fields of life-As it deals with the person’s attitudes, motives, perceptions, learning, feelings and emotions preludes and overall behaviour  and personality of the individual as shaped by the society and culture in which he lives.

History of the Department:    

            The Department of Psychology as a practically valuable subject was introduced in Prajamandal Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Nayagarh in the year 1983-84 at degree level Prof Madhumita Mohanty was the Head of the Department. After her Mrs Manoroma Mahapatra also acted as HOD of Psychology and guided the students. Prof Hari Har Mishra adorned as HOD since 1994 till 2009 October for a quite long period. He looked into the academic activity of the Department. The other faculty members like Mrs Puspita  Moharty, Miss Rajashree Mohanty and Mr. Prakash Chandra Nanda imparted their instructions efficiently and the students came out with grand success. The faculty members not only taught in the classes but also tried to inculcate the applicability of Psychology in daily living in the minds of the students. They have been giving emphasis on the behavioural adjustment of the students with every person and environment. The department has good academic history and the student have championed in the subject. The seminars are also conducted in the department to increase the skill of the students. Honours Course has been started recently in the department from session 2016-17.

·        Provide a sound education in behavioural science.

·        To enlighten the students how to adjust with the environments to make the live more colourful.

·        To respond the society in accordance with its expectation.

·        To develop moral & social values of the students.

            To inculcate in the minds students about the applicability of psychology in every sphere of life.
